: Hello All,
: I am building an OI with 3/16" strips and I was wondering if I could use
: 3/16" thick strips for the coming riser or should should I cut some
: more 1/4" pieces? Is there much loss in strength? I would suppose
: not, since the wood just gives it the shape and the strength comes from
: the glass.

3/16" strips are plenty strong. Used them on my last kayak, laminated mahogany and pine 1/8" strips for the lip. Used only 6 ounce glass on the riser and only a layer of 6 ounce over the top of the lip. I didn't bother glassing under the lip. Worked out just fine.
