: I just checked my build log for the last Black Pearl. Below is the lamination
: schedule for the hatch recesses starting from the outside working in.

: 1 x 3.25 oz fiberglass (outer layer to add depth)
: 2 x 5.5 oz carbon fiber (1 show layer, 1 build layer...)
: 3 x 6 oz fiberglass (fill layers to build thickness)
: 1 x 5.5 oz carbon (inner strength layer which will be in tension when
: stressed).

: Total thickness is about 1/8". It's roughly the same schedule I use for
: my coamings. I build mine right on the deck (no post-gluing). The show
: layer of CF and the 3.25 oz fiberglass are laminated after the deck is
: joined to the hull. I'm an engineer by training so I always ere on the
: safe side and overbuild stuff.

1/8" sounds fine, it's strong and still doesn't weigh anything
