I think things would be better if put in terms of whats water resistant and what not, if you want to use yellow, or white, glue for sure they would hold the joint, but they arent at all water resistant, and even if the problem could be solved by the epoxy sheating even that isnt foolproof, there could be moisture absoption with time. And we all leave the kayaks on the roof of our cars where they can get essentially baked, anyone noticed what happens to the chair or couch joints if they are constantly on the heater vents?
After all the effort involved in putting a kayak together why go easy on something like glue?
Poly glues are water resistant, any brand would provide the Data Sheets, with standard test results, and that is sufficient for me to take a decision on what to use. They are perfectly fine for our uses accordingly on whats on paper (even if theres one canoe/kayaks builder that says Titebond 2 isnt good). Maybe if money is an issue urea glues or resin glues could be fine, but not sure if everyone can get them.
Point is: if its water resistant then its good but all of us end buying epoxy for sheating the wood, most of the times we already have it there sitting on a corner of the shop waiting for its turn to be used, we dont work with chunks of wood that would shrink and swell during their working life in the hull, epoxy is practically waterproof and tested, the surfaces dont need to be a perfect match, you dont need to clamp stuff like crazy other than to keep things in place, you can change the consistency depending on the use, if for whatever reason theres a problem with the sheating and i have moisture in the wood the joint isnt a problem and the wood behind the joint is protected, theres no problems of "compatability" in repairs.... seriously, i cant see why bother spending more money on other kind of glues other than having to mix the stuff, and even that isnt much of a problem once you get into the habit of it and found the best system for your working pace.

: You could probably put your stems together with wallpaper paste and sheath
: them in glass and epoxy.

: Boatbuilders use methods that stand up to the marine environment and exposure
: to water and develop habits that adheir to a proven tradition of
: boatbuilding. Carpenters glue is just not a boatbuilding adhesive. Yes you
: can cheat and sheath anything in epoxy and glass.

: If you're going to put all that work in building a boat with good wood and
: your best craftsmanship, why use a glue other than epoxy since you already
: have it for the project and it's a proven waterproof adhesive and been
: tested for many years in the marine environment.

: Carpenters glues also creep and get soft with heat more so than epoxy. - like
: baking on a deck on a 100 degree day.
