SOF race kayak ia 18'6" x 17.75" max beam with a waterline beam of about 14.5" and weighs about 35# all rigged up. Susan completed the Blackburn in it powering through the 4' waves and 20 kt beam winds at the bottom of the course. Boat proved to be fairly neutral with no weather cocking in those conditions which was the greatest unknown for me. It is not as fast as her surf ski in flat water but faster in rougher conditions and that was the design parameters: be a good open water race boat that was rollable ( hence the need for a high foredeck as the knees pump up and down under the deck so she can lock in to roll if necessary). I transutioned that foredeck into a wave piercing bow to minimize speed robbing hobbyhorsing and damn if it all didn't work as planned!! It may have been faster as a strip or S&G (I think )but I only do SOF boats.
