Skin-on-Frame: Restoring Vintage 1950s Pioneer

Hi, I'm new here, a novice, and will try to not be long winded.

I have a 1957 Pioneer kayak. Canvas over a dowel frame with 'rubber' on the hull.

If you are interested in the details I'll be glad to go on at length about how cool this kayak is. It was first my parents' and was passed on to me. I've lived my whole life with this kayak.

It's starting to get a little beat. Most pressing is that the coating on the hull is wearing thin. In places you can see the fabric. About a quarter inch of water will soak into it after about 15 minutes in the water.

I'm looking for suggestions on what to use to restore the hull.

Thanks in advance and if you want I'll post a pic. It's very cool.
