They are both fast kayaks with much different handling characteristics. The Night Heron is a very manuverable sea kayak and the Outer Island is an extremely strong tracking sea kayak. You can always add a skeg to the Night Heron or trim a little bit off the stern keeline of the Outer Island if you want them to handle different. If you are interested in skulling and rolling the Outer Island is much better for these techniques.
