Good day,

As someone who frequently boats at night, if I saw a green laser flashing at me I would assume it was just a boat passing on it's starboard side, or if near port I might think it was a green can with a light. I wouldn't take it as a rescue. Even if it was flashing- I would assume it was being obstructed by swells, not that it was being flashed as a signal. The best thing to use is a flashing strobe. That's a dead-on "help me" signal. As a backup just for an "if all-else fails" item to carry just for visibility purposes, I would carry a couple of green light sticks. They are very visible, as I have tested at night when using them to make the squid that we use as bait when night-fishing more attractive by making it glow. You can even see them glowing well below the surface. When we get done I always throw one over and see how far away I can see it. You would be quite surprised. However, it's not going to send you help, just keep you from getting run over. You still need a strobe and a flashlight that you can signal with.

Just my two bits,

Malcolm
