Have ya heard the story of the park ranger giving his speech to the backpackers getting ready to leave on their extended hike in to the back country?
He explains that they should wear bells around their necks so as not to surprise any bears and should carry, and know how to use pepper spray.
He also tells them that the not only should they be able to know the difference between a black bear and a Grizzly on sight but they should be able to tell Black bear skat from Grizzly skat.
One of the backpackers asks just how do you tell the difference between the two.
The ranger explains it's very easy actually. The Black bear's skat contains roots and berries the Grizzly's contains roots and berries, little bells and pepper spray.

I'll do the conversion for ya: a cub that weighs 5-lbs is probably still in
: it's momma and so trying to fight it would be a very very bad idea. It's
: my bet momma wouldn't like it too much. Also, if the cub is 5-lbs it's
: likely that momma is sleeping in her den and so to wake her up to fight
: her unborn cub would truely get her pissed, even worse.

: ;)
