I have been trying to figure out quick way to cut scarf joints for potential upcoming kayak stich and glue project (don't like block plans) and played around with my radial arm saw miter and looks like I can cut scarf with the saw. Only concern I have (never having glued scarf joint together and build boat with it) is trial piece was pretty ragged looking. I assume once you glue joint together with thickened epoxy that any flaws would be pretty well filled in and joint would be strong. Any comments on how critical the final quality of the cut is on joint strength or other comments on cutting scarf joint using this or other methods is appreciated.
