Epoxy seems to be the most expensive way to coat the plaster of paris mold. Shellac has been used for years for this purpose. Two or three light coats should do it. Just using paste wax might do the trick, too. You dont need to melt parafin for a mold release. The local skateboarders use blocks of parafin and just rub them over the curbs. Works just like a colorless crayon and leaves a remarkably resiliant layer of wax. if you want to have it saok into the plaster, use a heat gun or hair dryer (very carefully) to melt the layer of wax that has been applied cold.

If you prefer to paint on your parafin, you can dissolve it in a small amount of naptha, paint thinner or even gasoline. Shave thin pieces of wax with a vegetable peeler, add a small amount of solvent and mix well. Paint this on. It will be thin, but the solvent should evaporate rapidly and you can add additional coats. DO NOT USE HEAT. You don't want to start a fire.

hope this helps Paul Jacobson
