I agree w/ your two way assesment, good call. I don't think the folw volume would be a concern, but the pressure differential would help seal the valve in one direction. It doesn't take much at all.

Some (most?) of these valves are spring loaded, and don't rely on pressure at all. The new sippy-cups that toddlers drink from have this type of valve, and it might even be two-way (I don't have one here at work, will check at home if I remember). They're probably cheaper than almost any other way that we've come up with so far (excep 1/16" hole)

The mildew concern was an EXCELLENT point. We should all have seen that right from the start!
