I rented a Pungo and paddled w/ my 2yr old daughter, and also w/ 60lb dog (not simultaneous)

I didn't really care for the Pungo for a couple of reasons. It's short and wide and high, so paddling upwind to alot of effort. I sat my daughter in front of me, and she leaned back against me. It worked okay except that it is hard to paddle with an object right there in the area your paddle belongs. If you put a cusion up near the front of the cockpit for him to sit on and have him holding onto the coaming it should work much better. That's where the dog sat, and it worked better than the kid, even though he's heavier and moves more.

I'd suggest a PFD with a retrieval handle that sticks up behind the child's head. That way, if he falls in, you just grab the handle. I saw a dog with a harness / DFD that also had the same sort of handle, and I intend to eventually get one.

Here, at no additional charge, is an outdated picture of my kid.
