I don't see a difference between strip & s&g as far as sections.

to make the joint look nicer you can thicken the epoxy with wood flour made
from the same wood as one type of the wood you used, & then do the same
with the other tpe you used.

you'll have to do some artistic restoration, but I believe it will come out
very nice (unlike mine)
