Yes, it is basically a strip built 600. I added a bit more rocker to the front, and took a little bit out of the hump in the deck right in front of the cockpit.

As for the Max, that flat rear deck is wonderful. Any time you brace a paddle across it, whether for a paddle float re-entry or getting in and out it is rock solid. Compared to another boat that I have with an arched deck it is night and day. It also makes it easier to get all the flare in the ends that makes the boat so stable when leaned. But, it is bigger than you need for some uses.

I am sure that I will have a few more adrenaline rushes due to sudden bracing with my ne boat, at least until I get used to it. I am not quite as casual about spending time upside down as I was 25 years ago. If I am in the mood for an 'epic' paddle some place remote I will probably take my Max. THis is why we all need lots of boats, so that we always have one to fit the occasion.
