: Hi, all you brainy people out there! I've got a problem, I'm in the process
: of fixing up my dad's old 1935 folbot two man kayak. I'm trying to glue
: some rub strips in the front and back these strips protect the main
: stiching that hold the rubber skin together these rub strips are glued
: with a contact cement. The problem is I've made a pattern of the orginal
: strip but when I lay-it out it wants to buckle . How do you avoid this
: buckling?.

It depends on how wide the strips are. If they're under 1.5" wide, and the radius you're gluing them to isn't too severe, just work your way from one end to the other, and stretch the outside a little and it will conform as you stick it down.

If it's wider, you might have to try a hot air gun and see if you can gently s-t-r-e-t-c-h it so it doesn't pucker.
