I'm only guessing, but I'd suspect that you find more satisfied customers building from kits than you would from plans when your designs feature a lot of percision cut panels

For a CLC-style hard chine design you only need 4 panels cut with percision: 2 for the bottom and 2 for the sides. When you get into multi-chine hulls and decks you wind up with a lot of individual pieces that all have to be precisely cut in order for everything to fit together and look good.

I don't think it's much of a choice between most novice builders and a CNC machine when it comes to cutting panels percisesly enough to ensure a good end result.
