Jim, it kind of depends on what kind of double or single you are talking about, if it's a recreational double with an open cockpit and not too large a carrying capacity then you could get away with it, a closed deck sea kayak double can make sense if you weigh over 300lbs and are quite strong but for the most part a boat that's meant to carry 300-500lbs will be quite a handful with 190lbs and wind or waves. Get the boat that is designed for most of your paddling otherwise you're looking at many compromises.
