While you are in a book buying mode, if you have any interest in building a stripbuilt boat, get a copy of David Hazen's book on strip building canoes. It is the only book out that I know of that includes full size plans for the building forms for two kayaks (and several canoes). Just trace 'em on plywood and get cutting. The book is reasonably priced, too.

Check the archives for the many posts by Mike Hanks on the building of his Walruses. also get George Putz's excellent book. You can see how the frame for the canvas-covered boat is created by bending chines (long thin strips of wood) around his plywood forms. Once those chines are assembled, though, you can lay a strip of plywood on them and use a pencil to trace the outline of the chines onto the wood. Cut out the wood and glue and screw it to the chines. Trim down the rough edges and make another panel to go next to this. You can cover the deck with large curved panels like Kulczycki does if you don't like the lines of the Putz deck.

Plywood on chine construction is an ancestor of stitch and glue techniques, but it is still a viable construction method, which has a little more leeway in the building process.

Cover the outside of the seams, or the entire boat, with a layer of glass cloth and epoxy resin and you have a very nice plywood boat.

Hope this helps.
