Mike,

I made my first hatch lip last nite and took it off the deck this morning.
I relied on Ross Liedy"s page and Spidey"s page as well as information from two previous posts on this page. I used 3" wide packaging tape as the release medium. I believe it was Ross Liedy who suggested this because it would stick to the bottom of the deck and hatch better than contact paper. The down. side to using it is the overlapping seams of tape. I did not feel this was a problem at all. As for having to offset the hatch cover thats the beauty of this system it does not need to be recessed. When building the sealing channel you use 1/8 to 3/16 x 3/8 foam. Then in the final installation you use 1/4 to 5/16 x 3/8 foam the bungie system compresses the foam until the hatch makes contact with the flange and you should end up with a perfectly flush hatch.
