I,too, am woeking on a Putz 18' but my frame come out to less than 19 lbs. I check to make sure I did mine right. Mine is made out of spruce. Your extra weight may be because of the pine.
Nothing. Just curious!

: The Book, " Wood and Canvas Kayak Building ", by George Putz, calls
: for 1" x 1/2" strips for all stringers on this particular boat.
: It's the 18 1/2 foot model intended to be a double. Because of My size,
: and the size of the folks that will be getting the boat, I went with
: 1" x 3/4" on the stringers, chines and Gunwales and I chose to
: use a vertical piece 3/4" x 1 1/2" for the Keelson. It is built
: of white Pine ( Ponderosa I believe ), but not clear. I ended up with a
: couple af small knots, but saved a bunch on wood expenses using the lesser
: grade and cutting around most of the flaws. The 17' boat, the single, uses
: 3/4" x 3/8" stringers. The 1/2" and 3/8" is the
: thickness.

: Hope that will do, and if you need more info. just ask. :) Most of the rest
: came from the book, with a couple more mods. from Paul Jacobson and myself
: on the forms. Let me know.
