: Hi All,

: Just moved into a new house It's got a great garage. Only problem is my 2
: kayaks take up much too much room.

: I want to make up some wall mounted cradles, so I can store a boat high up
: against each of the longer walls and have some room for a workshop. Any
: body got any ideas about how to make some? I want to bolt them to the wall
: studs (which are exposed).

: The wife has planted me in the biggest honey do patch you ever saw, so I
: don't have a lot of time to work out the best/easiest way to go about it.

: Cheers,

: Paul.

I have a simple but effective set-up in my converted two car garage/shop.

The garage door has tracks running back about six feet on the ceiling. Then I have roof rafters. I've nailed a couple 2 x 4s to a rafter about 16" from the back wall with a horizonal bar of another 2 x 4 padded with foam. Then on the first rafter behind the garage door stop I've fixed webbing straps, like the ones you tie the kayak down to your roof rack.

To store my kayaks I put the stern on the back bar and then put the bow on my shoulder as I close up the webbing strap and pull the boat up to the ceiling. The garage door has room to open in the space between the kayak and the ceiling. I've had five kayaks in there at one time.

It's quick, cheap, simple and works well.

All the best,
