In Response To: rubstrips (Tony Ornatek)

: I'm building a skin-on-frame sea kayak using #10 canvas and oil base paint
: for the hull. I would like to add a rubstrip to the bow (too many gravel
: and rocky landings here in maine), but I'm not sure of the material to use
: or whether to appy the strip before or after I paint? can anyone help?

I use polypropylene cloth (available from Defender Industries) on the stems of my boat for abrasion protection. I'd think you could lay a strip on your stems and apply epoxy which would glue it to the canvas and provide abrasion protection. Then paint.

All the best,
