: I believe that thinking about the project is generally harder than actually
: doing it. One of the problems with this BBS is everyone posts pictures of
: their drop-dead-gorgeous kayak and begginers are intimidated. They think
: that there is no way that they can do as good a job. They can, but there
: is no reason that they need to. If the goal is to build a nice boat, it is
: a very easy goal to reach. Building a boat as nice as Ross's is much
: harder but probably shouldn't be a goal if it is your first boat.

Building a boat as nice as Ross's or Dale's or Joe's, with perfectly tight strips and high attention to color matching is difficult.

Building with a small amount of artistry or design is not much harder than a boat built with plain strips. It takes a little more time, but can actually be easier, since you're fitting shorter strips.

: Get your plans out, by the material and start. You will see that the next
: step is easy. It is only when you look at the whole project that it is
: hard. Take it one step at a time and soon enough you will be done.

Nick is right--it's just a progression of small steps. Give into temptation and get building! The process, as well as the end result, is well worth it.
