Hi Richard,

Consider installing a front bulkhead and hatch for reasons of safety. You mentioned putting in an airbag in the front of the kayak. Unless its one El’ Hugo airbag, it won’t have near the displacement of a bulk head. The cockpit volume should be as low as possible so that in case of a capsize, you will have maximum floatation from your fore and aft bulkheads and you’ll take on a minimum amount of water. In a bad situation, you’ll have better control and be able to remove water taken on in the cockpit quicker.
