I agree. I washed mine down with a generous scrubbing with denatured alcohol. Most people don't recommend acetone due to impurities. Obviously, if you use the alcohol, this is a respirator, no ignition source operation, but then varnishing will be too. No matter what you use to wash with, the process is a good one as it eliminates a lot of the sanding dust that may be around. You might also want to consider the "rag" method for applying varnish. Never used it myself, but others here have had good luck with it (see archives for more info). Good luck!
