: It occured to me after pulling my s&g Pygmy Arctic Tern from the delievery
: box that the coaming laminations are not the greatest looking. Has anyone
: used the preglued wood edge veneers used for the edges of tables in
: various widths and colors to cover up the coaming rings? I would think
: that you could also do inlaying on the top of the deck with this material.
: Just a thought.

look at how most of the strip built kayaks do their coaming lips. that will give you some ideas. If you are trying to get rid of the look of the edge grain from the plywood, why not just laminate a 1/8 x 3/8 strip of ash or cedar around the outside. the thicker laminate would be easier to handle and you can pick a contrasting color.

or skip the whole plywood lip and build a whole coaming with vertical strips and a laminated lip around the top. see the Squeedunk Kayaks site for a couple of examples of a stitch and glue boat with a stripper type coaming. good luck , addison
