Maybe it’s the species of wood. Don't know. Port Orford Cedar is very popular for solid wood paddles. It seems to stay true after removing much of the wood. I am using African mahogany on a boat. It gets really squirrelly when it is cut thin. It would not be the least cooperative without laminations.
