There is also Mystery Bay, across the way, which would be a nice paddle over.

: Knowing that sites fill rather quickly at Fort Warden, here are a couple
: other options.
: 1. Jefferson County Fair Grounds (360) 385 9129. These sites are not nearly
: as nice, but there are showers and I believe it is cheaper than Fort
: Warden. The fair grounds are about a mile from Fort Warden. A paddle from
: North Beach (1/2 mile from fair grounds), along the bluffs, through kelp
: beds, around Point Wilson, and to the beach, would take about an hour.
: This could be a very nice way to begin your day. Check your tide book on
: this one, as Point Wilson can be quite hairy in a big flood or ebb. A
: short portage across the point is possible to avoid the currents.

: 2. Old Fort Townsend State Park (360) 385 3595. This park, about five miles
: from town has very nice sites. There are miles of trail, and beach access.
: The paddle from there to the beach will take a couple hours, and take you
: infront of Port Townsend's Water Front. This paddle, although longer, is
: generally safer than the paddle around Point Wilson.

: There are also roads connecting these locations for the less adventuress.
