Mike,

I planed my boards to 3/4 inch thick before cutting strips. I then cut the strips oversized and planed them to 1/4 inch. Planing the strips to 1/4" is probably overkill, but the on last boat I built, my strips weren't uniform and they liked to have worked me to death fairing. My beads and coves were not centered on all the strips because of the uneveness. I guess what I am trying to tell you is to get the strips as perfect as you can.
