There are quite a few suppliers of outdoor fabrics and patterns; Penny Schwyn's site (http://www.specialtyoutdoors.com) has it all broken down, with some great tips to boot. IMHO the essential catalogs are Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics (800.693.7467; frequent unique offerings), Quest Outfitters (800.359.6931; they list how much fabric each pattern needs), Fabrics for the Great Outdoors (800.798.5885; they do Storm Mountain patterns, which are great) and The Rain Shed (541.753.8900; some patterns in kit form).

You might also check out the "Make Your Own Gear" section at the Lightweight Backpacking Messge Boards ; there's lots of great ideas and tips that are in the spirit of this bbs.
