I bought a Shark replacement blade for $5. and made a handle of some leftover wood. I like it a lot for all kinds of work from trimming strips to cutting 2 X 4s. My backsaws and regular handsaws are languishing.
A table saw is the most common way to rip strips. Take the time to make an accurate set-up including feather boards and a no-clearance insert. Consistency of thickness is more important than you imagine. A narrow blade will save wood. I recommend a mask when ripping quantities of wood.
