: Lining up the forms is giving me fits. Just how precise do they have to be?
: How far off can they get before I start screwing up the performance?

In order for everything to work out fair the forms need to be pretty close. I would say a tolerance of about 1/8 inch and no more. Try running a string line from end to end, extending the lines from the forms with a small stick clamped to the line on the form so your string can run from end to end without touching on any of the forms. After you install the sheer strip sight down the strip to check that it looks fair. Repeat this on the other side making any minor adjustments to the forms if necessary.
The more care you take lining things up before you start the better the end result will be. Hope this helps. Happy Boat Building!
