Feathered edges and first fill coat.

After I feathered the edges of the reinforcing glass and applied the first fill coat I noticed that some of the feathered edges remained white. Any thoughts as to why this occured. 98% of the sanded edge became clear again except a few spots. Should I sand down to the edge and try again after the fill coat sets up?
