My stripping on the deck has never been right and I screwed up at the very start and I still don't know how it should have been done but I can make it work with great difficulty. If you look at the rope hole and go up at 45 degrees you will see a thin cedar strip running along on top of the pine strip and then dissapearing. That little 5 inch section was a half days work and a lot of frustration because of the inside angles and the sinking of the strip from on top of the pine to the inside of the pine. Now, 3 more to go, one on the other side of the bow and two in the stern. I was trying to put one into the stern yesterday and was having a terrible time so I decided to cheat. There is a product that patternmakers use like a third hand called Tuff Carve (carveable like wood) & Tuff Fill (very hard & used for taking quick cast, etc.)
They are like auto body two part putty and set in about 5 minutes and workable in about 20, and come in Pine, Mah., and other wood colors now I think. Anyway, after trying to cobble up my fit and getting very frustrated I just mixed up a small batch and squashed the two pieces together and had my perfect fit glued into place. Tuff products aren't sold to the general public but if you get a hold of the company I am sure they would dirrect to a supplier in your area. For taking say a small cast of a half dollar, glue the coin down and grease it with crisco, mix and squash over the coin by itself or with a small piece of wood and in 5 min pull off your perfect cast. The uses go on and on. You could probably take Mah. & Pine and mix the two in small protions to get a good color wood match for wood patching and then add your hardner, fill and sand in 10 or 20 minutes depending on the temp.
