thanks for the reply. I do want to build from plans and from what I've seen and read of the two boats the dificulty and time of construction should be about the same. The little camping we would do would involve paddeling from Nahcotta over to the Island for overnighters, my canoe will carry more than enough for the both of us and still have room to spare, so I'm looking at a total payload of between 160 lbs. to 205 lbs. so it would probably be the Chess. 16, besides I have a Chesapeake Bay Retreiver
