Tom,
I'd stay away from the pencil idea the graphite in the pencil "lead" will act as a lubricant and effect the adheasion of you epoxy.
Any of these water based alpha whatever glues will freeze and have to be used and stored at least low room temperatures. Mixing them after freezing may restore their usfulness. At least it works with thawed out latex paint.
Steve's a very clever fellow, but remember to clean the wife's iron after use!
