: Elliot, your guess was right, cut the stem form taper out a match it up to
: the strong back. Another option would be to consider not using the stem
: forms at all and placeing a solid end on. There are some threads on the
: bbs concerning this. I have assisted in two GE builds and as lovely as the
: boat is that stem is a B.... to lay up. Difficult curves and a tendency to
: twist once laid up. I too followed Hazen's book and had little difficulty
: with the general construction of the GE. Cove and bead a must. Refer to
: nicks book if you don't already have it. I found that wisdom could be
: found in both methods although David definetly adhears to the KISS
: method-something I like.
: Good luck on the adventure.

Rick, Thanks for the info. I have the book and plans etc. I am waiting on my cove and bead strips as well as the rest of the material. The easiest way to cut the strongback would seem to be, Cut the stem form cutout out, then lay that on the side of the strongback mark the cutout shape on the strongback then cut the taper? Also in the the layup, Did you use the method where he runs the strips out straight then fills in the void? That seems to be what you said but things do get lost in translation, especially in my little brain cavity. A last note, if you have any pictures of the stem layup that you would like to share, I would love to see them. you can email them directly to me at Pfloyd7499@aol.com. That might save alot of hassle trying to get them on the bulletin board. As always I greatly appreciate any tips or trade secrets and thank you very much!
Elliott
