: Here's a cheap and easy edge clamp jig for the tough bends at the stems. The
: cove stays up and makes gluing easy, and the delicate cove edges don't get
: destroyed. The strap and tail on the jig help to persuade the strip to
: twist from almost horizontal to almost vertical.
The jig is clever, but my workspace is so small (a foot longer than the kayak and barely twice as wide) that I have to keep it simple.

The stationary clamps are an interesting idea but I would still worry about them crushing the cove if the clamping force of the cable straps, (nylon or fabric) overcomes the clip's grip on the sides of the strip. I found that a 3 foot length of 1/4" hardwood dowel cut into 1.5 or 2" lengths provided the perfect tool for protecting the cove whether I'm clamping with masking tape, cable ties or metal clamps. There is still a place for the staionary clamps - holding the dowel in place when the cove is lying too horizontal for gravity to hold the dowl put until it is clamped.

Keep those great ideas coming!
