After reading through some of the construction process, it seems that the key step was the application of 3 seal coats of epoxy and sanding those coats before the cloth went on. I'm sure there was enough build to allow sanding after the third coat. This probably provided the smooth surface necessary. I followed the link to the Rett's page and saw some personal pages of children affected. It breaks your heart and brings home the reality of its human impact when you see the faces of these chidren. I have to admire the doctor for the effort of building such a beatiful boat and his selflessness in letting it go for such a good cause.
