: I'm currently checking out the spokeshave.

There's not much to add to Russ' comments, except maybe to set them to music. I have a couple flatties, a combo concave/convex and a camfering model. A couple I purchased new the others were my grandfathers trade tools. I use them all for woodworking, less on fairing hulls. But for masts, oars, tillers, etc. there's nothing else I find works as well. I had another, but I dropped it on concrete. If you're working over concrete try to get one made of brass. They bounce better that iron.
