George, I just built my daughter a canoe paddle out of it. The only problem with a paddle is they get nicked and basswood doesn't take water well. It light enough and carvable enough. But you kind of have to off set the weight thing with an extra layer of protection. Still as accents or as the inner part of a laminated sandwich it woould be great. I'd put something else on the blade tips though. Somthing that took water better.
