: My Guillemot is approximately 2 yrs old and getting extremely white/cloudy. I
: think this is due to using an inexpensive epoxy (Blem) and also because of
: lack of experience. I have since built a second kayak using the west
: system 207 with great results. I am considering the two following options
: 1-re-finish the kayak by sanding to the wood. Is this possible? What would be
: the most efficient way of doing this? Would I have to get to the bare wood
: and how much of the saturated wood would I have to sand? I'm assuming
: approximately less than a 16th of an inch.
: 2-or I can just paint the kayak, I'm not to crazy about this option.

I had to do some repairs on my 3-year-old G-boat. A Porter-Cable 333 ROS with 40 grit paper made short work of the glass. Cleanup with 80 and 120 was fast too, and ready for new glass in a day.

Here's the problem. Sanding exposed some interior gaps that hadn't been exposed before, so they were filled with epoxy putty. Those areas became partially sealed, and when the whole area was wet out for the glass these partially sealed areas didn't accept as much resin as the surrounding bare wood. Therefore we now have splotches showing through the new glass. Heavy sigh. Don't really want to sand any more, but don't like the splotches either. Haven't decided what to do. Any suggestions?
