Trying to picture the "duckass" sander. LMAO!

What I was trying to describe is a dual action sander like the one's they use in bodyshops. they use 11 to 14 cfm at 90 psi if I am not mistaken. I have very little knowledge about these things, but that seems like a hefty amount of air to get out of a compressor. Most new compressors need like 6hp to get up to the cfm needed. Do you know how much the files use?

It is for use on a strip canoe that was being thrown out at the high school and one of the middle school teachers thought would be a good project for a business tech class. Since they knew I built boats they put me in charge of it for a while. Well it is know three years later and it is finally fiberglassed. The boat is 16 feet long and has a 38" beam . It is a barge. I was thinking a dual action sander might speed up the process of sanding the epoxy and i could use it on my heron when the time came.

Thanks

Tom

: I was wondering if this compressor would push a D/A sander? I know they take
: a lot of cfm but i don't know how to find out how much this compressor
: puts out.

: D/A? That'd be duckass? Sorry just not familiar with the term. Air files and
: jitterbugs do take a lot of air . . . Ah, D for disk? No matter, still
: takes a lot of air. If this thing is old the HP rating is probably
: conservative. By your description of it, its got as fair sized tank. If
: the pump has twin cylinders and you have good air storage capacity, you
: should be in business.

: I have a 3hp compressor with a 20 gallon tank which runs on 220 volts. I also
: have three air files. One is Taiwanese junk which has been stripped for
: parts. The second is a new Coleman "Air Force." The third is a
: Chicago-Pneumatic purchased at a used tool shop for $10. It had a bad
: valve from too much exposure to solvents.

: After replacing its valve the CP has proven to be the only file of the three
: that will work continuously with this compressor. The others draw
: significantly more air and do less work with it. My point, the air tool
: may be the biggest variable determining whether this compressor will work
: for you.
