Port Oford Cedar

I got a hold of some nice 18' Port Oford cedar and plan to mill up strips and use it on the bottom portion of a canoe, in conjunction with wester red cedar for the rest of the hull. Is this ok? I haven't heard or read much about it's use. Any feeling on its use? The Western Red Cedar is Kiln dried and the PO cedar is not?

Thanks in advance

Tony
