I aggree with the center of mass of the average paddler is near his or her navel.

I usually center my cockpits around the center of bouyancy give or take. this gives a bit of room behind the paddler for the backrest to move around in. Note that I make full size cockpits about 31". Greenland cockpits should be relatively farther aft.
