: hi all;
: i'm building nick's s&g guillemot as my first kayak. the hull is together and
: the ends are poured. it looks great!
: my question is this.....
: nick's plans say that the front of the cockpit is 95.5 inches from the bow.
: iv'e penciled it on the deck that way and it seems to me that with a
: cockpit that is 29.5 inches long there is going to be a lot more bow than
: there is stern. the rear of the cockpit is about twenty inches aft of the
: balance point of the boat. is this correct, or am i building a bird
: watcher????
: any comments greatly appreciated.
: best regards;
: daren.

I think the positioning of the rear of cockpit is more important as it generally has more bearing on where you put your seat. If you have the seat too far to the rear the boat will do the opposite of weathercock (is this called leecocking ?). Anyway, the boat will tend to turn downwind and this is bad bad bad. If you are putting in a cockpit that is longer than Nick's plans, adjust the position forward so that the back lines up.
