Dave, I have similar questions to yours. I'm starting on a 17'skin baidarka from Wolfgang Brinck's book. Today I received several samples of nylon and dacron from George Dyson, in 8-, 12-, 13- and 15-oz weights. They all look pretty strong. I would much appreciate advice on which weight is best to use for my boat, which will see general use, no rock surfing but some beach landings. I would also be grateful for advice on what is the best paint to use - should I go with Hypalon paint or is there something lighter and "faster" in the water that works as well?

Thanks to all. I hope it isn't heresy to post about skin boats here ;)
