Hi Paul,
There are a bunch of building plans for sailboats. There are traditionally built craft and more modern types like S&G and even some strip built designs. The Woodenboat Forum is a great resource.......lots of experience there man! The folks are extremely knowledgable and the forum is very interesting to visit. WoodenBoat Magazine has lots of ads, as do the UK publications ClassicBoat and WaterCraft.

Some of my favorite sailboat plans are those from Iain Oughtred. He has everything from sailing canoes to coastal cruisers. Most all of his designs are built in glued lapstrake construction, which is a good method for the home builder. Tom Hill has a really good book on this type of construction called Ultralight Boatbuilding. Iain also has a very nice manual for glued lap construction. The results are the same, btu the methods of construction differ a bit. The results are beautiful and lightweight...very traditional looking. Mr. Oughtred does not have a web site, but some of his design are found at the Databoat web pages and also a place called duck flat woodenboats here on the web has some of his designs pictured.....check out his Grey Seal for a big boat.
If you'd like to build a strip built boat with modern lines, have a look at www.nwmarinedesign.com Mr. Gondola has some very nice boats that use both cold molded and strip/sheathed methods. The K series boats are nice and the NS14 is a fast looking little boat (check the NS 14 class pages too). Those are definitely on my short list of dream projects (oh to have room for the Northeast 21...).
HH Payson has lots of Bolger boats. Bolger boats are very fine and capable, though not quite as nice to look at as others. The Bobcat is a great design. There is the Chebacco too.......19' with a cuddy a cat yawl rigged beauty. There is a web site for chebacco buiders and sailors...a search should turn it up. The newsletters have some good pictures of the boats.

Probably one of the best designs for a novice sailor and builder, IMO, are the boats from www.bandbyachtdesigns.com Check out the Bay River Skiff and the Core Sound 17' or 20'. They are very nice looking and should be easy to build and sail. You can be on the water quickly with the sprit rigs and the cat-ketch configuration should prove to be easy to handle (those look really cool going wing and wing before the wind!).

There are a bunch to choose from. I have some plans for a plywood version of the Sunfish too, from a magazine several years back. Email me if you'd like. I love to por over (...and over), sailboat plans.

Also, Walt Simmons from Duck Trap woodworking has some fine traditional wherries and peapods that can be built in glued lap or traditional lapstrake construction.

There out there......I guess it just depends on what you are looking for, though, if you are like me, you'll find merit in so many of the designs it will be hard to decide which to plan for.

One more.....Selway-Fisher web site has boats of all kinds.

Oh yeah, have a look at the little Sharpie from CLC. It outta be a fun one......or there is the Ace 14 from Arch Davis........or how 'bout something from Sam Devlin......or the MeadowBird 16, yeah!, she's a great little boat........

All of these sites are found in the MOTHER OF ALL MARITIME LINKS at www.boat-links.com/linklists/boatlink-05.html#plans

good luck,
garland
