: At the West Coast Kayak Symposium last year, I saw a storage bag that
: attached underneath the deck. It looked like a good idea. Does anyone know
: anything about them? Jan

I use an 18" x 9" x 2" underdeck bag that I attach to a dowel I mounted just under the deck on my Ches. 17, and running forward along the length of the boat to the front bulkhead. I use a crampon bag which is reasonably weather proof, and just clip the 2 strap buckles over the dowel. The bag in question is from Mountain Equipment Coop and can be unzipped at one end for in-boat use, or along the top. It cost about $20 Canadian. I can also slide a dry bag with extra clothes etc. along the dowel and it sits just between my feet, nicely secured. As the crampon bag is not totally waterproof, I usually keep my wallet, etc. in a ziploc bag, although it has never got wet under the deck and off the floor. I use the same bag in my Feathercraft K-Light, and just hang it over the front deck bar in the cockpit.
