I like to use a roller to spread the epoxy. After a short time you can tell if you have to little or too much epoxy in a location by the sound of the roller. After it has setup I come back through and use the cabinet scraper to hit any possible drips and sags.

On the outside of the hull this works excellent. On the inside however a squeegee is mandatory to remove any extra epoxy from pudding up on the bottom. On the inside I tend to only put on one fill coat. Just to make sure I have no pinholes though the glass so water cannot get to the wood, this also reduces weight.

The only place I tend to use a brush on the inside of the hull is near the bow and stern were it’s hard to work with the squeegee.
